7am: morning coffee
8am: handover in Doctors’ room
9am: ward round – patients with TB, leprosy, malaria, rheumatic heart disease
10am: busy in Emergency Department – fractured hips and ankles, sick babies, eye emergencies and post-op surgical patients for review
11am: helicopter lands to retrieve septic patient with disseminated melioidosis
12am: patient arrives in ED in complete heart block with a rate of 30
1pm: sedating patient for external pacing
2pm: negotiating retrieval with RFDS
3pm: on helicopter to Horn Island
4pm: on RFDS plane to Cairns with two patients – one septic, one on inotrope infusion
5pm: enjoy sunset over the clouds
6pm: handover to ED and physicians at Cairns Base Hospital
