Suitability assessment and allocation

Selection into AGPT is a merit-based, competitive and multi-phased process used to determine which applicants are best suited to general practice training. It is carried out in accordance with the Australian Medical Council’s principles for selection into specialist training programs against nationally consistent criteria. The competency-based selection process allows applicants to demonstrate their abilities and suitability for entry into AGPT. (See below document for details of selection criteria.)

Applicants will be invited to attend an AGPT Selection Centre to be held from 7 to 28 July 2011. AGPT Selection Centres will be run in all capital cities, as well as Townsville and Newcastle. The Townsville Selection Centre will be run on 16 July 2011. The specific locations of the AGPT Selection Centres will be listed on the AGPT website prior to the opening of applications for 2012 AGPT. The AGPT Selection Centres will consist of Multiple Mini Interviews (MMIs) and a 50-question Situational Judgement Test (SJT). The results from the AGPT Selection Centre and the score of the structured referee reports supplied will form the basis of a competitive, merit-based applicant allocation to an RTP.

Please read the Interveiw Process to prepare for the interview.
