How To Apply

Applications for TMT's GP Training Program are handled through Australian General Practice Training (AGPT). Applicants are submitted by completing an online application form and mailing a hardcopy. The application form is accessible through the AGPT website. The AGPT website provides a comprehensive overview of the application process and answers to frequently asked questions. Applicants are encouraged to monitor the website regularly to obtain the most up-to-date information regarding the application and selection process.

It is essential that AGPT receives the following documentation from applicants by close of business on the date of applications close:
  • 1 signed copy of application form - successful submission of the application will produce a PDF document, printed and signed
  • 3 copies of supporting documentation (certified copies only not originals)
  • 3 passport photos
    Failure to do so may render the application invaild

Supporting Documentation

The following certifited supporting documentation will be required as part of an application:

  • Citizenship/residency verification - birth certificate, permanent residency documentation, passport
  • Primary medical qualification - copy of medical degree or academic transcript
  • Proof of meeting all of the requirements of the Australian Medical Council
  • Medical registration - copy of current registration card or certificate
  • Name changes - marriage certificate or deed poll

Additional supporting documentation may also be required from applicants who fall under one or more of the following categories

  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applications - Australian Indigenous Doctors' Association verification
  • International Medical Graduate - Australian Medical Council certificate/examination results or date of first medical registration in an Australian State or Territory
  • International Doctors trained in Australia - Evidence of date when application became a permanent resident & academic transcript

All the supporting documentation must be certified by a Justice of the Peace or Commissioner of Declaration or other authorised officer. Passport photos will also need to be authenticated on the back. For disclosure of the application requirements visit the AGPT website.

 

At the time of application, applicants are required to nominate two referees only and provide the contact details for these referees in the online application form. The applicant should then download and print the structured referee report form from the AGPT website and provide a copy of to the referees to complete and return to GPET.

Note: The referee details entered into Section F of the online application form MUST be the same as those on the reports received by GPET.

The application forms are only on the AGPT website on the date that applications open. Applications will not be possible prior to this time. All applicants are compiled nationally by AGPT and all applicants are required to identify their preferred Regional Training Provider (RTP) at the time of completing the application form.
